Why Calculate Online Instead of Manually

Manual tax calculation means finding the right slab, applying the correct percentage, and adding the fixed amount for that bracket. One mistake in any step changes your result.

An online tax calculator removes that risk. You get a consistent, repeatable estimate every time, updated when official FBR notifications are released.

It also saves time if you want to compare figures across income levels, tax years, and after adding a deduction like Zakat and a pension contribution.

Why Use Our Pakistan Tax Calculator

  • Updated for the current tax year. Slabs are revised when FBR notifies new rates.
  • Works for salaried and non-salaried income. The calculator applies the correct table based on your income type.
  • Includes common deductions. Zakat, pension fund contributions, and housing loan markup are factored into your estimate.
  • Suitable for any income level. From a Rs 50,000 monthly salary to income above Rs 700,000 a month.

Tax Calculation Example

  • A monthly salary of Rs 150,000 comes to Rs 1,800,000 a year. That falls in the Rs 1,200,001โ€“Rs 2,200,000 slab for FY 2026-27.
  • The amount above Rs 1,200,000 is Rs 600,000. At 11%, that’s Rs 66,000. Add the fixed Rs 6,000 for this bracket.
  • Estimated annual tax: Rs 72,000. That’s Rs 6,000 a month. The calculator applies this same formula automatically.

Who This Salary Tax Calculator Is For

This Salary Tax Calculator is designed for salaried employees. FBR defines a salaried individual as someone whose salary makes up more than 75% of total taxable income.

If most of your income comes from freelancing, business, and rental property then a different slab table applies. That table generally has higher rates. Use our freelancer tax calculator and business tax calculator for a more accurate estimate in that case.

Understanding How Income Tax Works in Pakistan

Pakistan uses a progressive tax system. You are not taxed at one flat rate on your full income.

Instead, each portion of your salary is taxed at the rate for its bracket. Only the amount above each threshold moves to the next rate.

This is why someone earning Rs 600,001 pays very little extra tax. And why someone earning Rs 5 million doesn’t pay their top rate on the entire salary and only on the portion above Rs 4.1 million.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) sets these slabs each year through the Finance Act. This is usually announced with the federal budget in June.

Rates and thresholds can change from one year to the next. Using the correct tax year matters. Applying last year’s slabs to this year’s salary can produce an inaccurate estimate.

Salaried vs. Non-Salaried: Two Different Tax Tables

FBR treats salaried and non-salaried taxpayers differently. This affects which rate table applies to you.

Salaried individuals have salary as more than 75% of total income. Tax is withheld at source by the employer. This category uses the lower rate table shown above.

Non-salaried individuals include freelancers, business owners, and landlords with significant rental income. This income is self-declared. It’s taxed under a separate table with higher rates at most brackets.

To check which category applies to you, calculate what percentage of your income comes from salary.

Deductions That Can Lower Your Taxable Income

A few deductions can reduce your taxable income before slab rates apply.

  • Zakat paid under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance
  • Pension fund contributions, within FBR’s approved limits
  • Housing loan markup, paid to a recognized financial institution
  • Tax credits for approved donations and, in some cases, education expenses

These deductions don’t apply automatically. You need to claim them and documentation may be required.

Why Filing on Time Matters

Being listed on FBR’s Active Taxpayer List (filer status) affects your finances beyond income tax.

Filers pay lower withholding tax on property purchases, vehicle registration, and banking transactions. Non-filers pay higher rates on the same transactions.

The typical filing deadline for salaried individuals is September 30 each year. Missing it can result in a surcharge and a monthly penalty.

This calculator gives you an estimate. Filing your return through FBR’s IRIS portal is a separate and required step.

Yes. It’s completely free and you don’t need to create an account and sign up.

We update the slabs whenever FBR releases new official notifications then typically after the federal budget each June.

You can file through FBR’s IRIS portal at iris.fbr.gov.pk, using your CNIC to register. Salaried individuals typically have until September 30 each year.
